Brits Bent on Population Control

Gordon Brown's leading green advisor Jonathon Porritt has said that Britain most dramatically reduce its population down to 30 million.

“Each person in Britain has far more impact on the environment than those in developing countries so cutting our population is one way to reduce that impact.”

Population growth is one of the most politically sensitive environmental problems. The issues it raises, including religion, culture and immigration policy, have proved too toxic for most green groups.

However, Porritt is winning scientific backing. Professor Chris Rapley, director of the Science Museum, will use the OPT conference, to be held at the Royal Statistical Society, to warn that population growth could help derail attempts to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

One commenter on the article says that the birth rate is already 1.7 per woman, so I guess they are going to have to kill off some old people. What's that figure that a lot of environmentalists say we have to get the Earth's population down to? Isn't that why David Morse released the virus in 12 Monkeys? To Kill off mankind?
