The Govt Won't Get My Clunkers

That program Obama got passed that is supposed to prompt Americans to turn in their "clunkers" for up to $4500? Well, most of us won't qualify. Take two of the Pax motor pool residents, for example. The first, an old Dodge Grand Caravan doesn't meet the combined MPG standard (it gets about 21 around town) for what I would want to buy and I haven't kept it registered for a continuous year. Another old Jeep Grand Cherokee meets the MPG requirements, but the insurance and registration hasn't been kept current for a continuous year.

I don't believe in keeping such things current on vehicles if they aren't being driven. That's a waste of money. If I were to bring both vehicles up to date on registration and insurance the November deadline would pass before they became eligible, anyway.

So, Obama can expect me to continue fixing them up and driving them instead of a new crappy GM or Chrysler product with the "help" of His Imperial Tax scheme.

For more, check out the NY Times article on the Cash for Clunkers scheme. Here's an interesting quote:
“It has to be worth not very much and it also has to get very poor E.P.A. fuel economy,” said Jack R. Nerad, the executive editorial director and market analyst for Kelley Blue Book. “It’s a fairly narrow profile. You’re talking about people who are probably economically challenged to begin with and they have to be able to qualify for a new car purchase in the midst of a deep recession. Those are some difficult parameters.”
